Frequently Asked Questions 1. What is Reiki? Reiki is a non-invasive healing process. Reiki is "Universal Energy". 2. What can I expect when I have a Reiki session? In order to ensure the best experience, it is recommended to be available for treatment before the initial appointment time. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes. The therapist places her hands along different parts of the body from the crown of the head to the feet, allowing energy source to flow to throughout the body. After the session, the therapist will recommend that you drink at least 8oz of water to rehydrate and improve the energy flow. 3. What are the benefits/risks of Reiki? Most people experience and state of peace or relaxation during a Reiki session. Some do feel a strong emotional release. Occasionally, dizziness or nausea can occur after a session. Drinking water can help. After initial sessions, it is possible to feel cold-like symptoms while the body is purging impurities and the healing process is occurring. It should pass after a few days. Many don't feel any difference before or after the session. That doesn't mean it isn't working. The energy does flow where it needs to go in order to provide the best results. Experience can vary from person to person. Reiki helps heal the mind, body, and the spirit and is excellent for complete balance or item specific healing. 4. What is aromatherapy? Aromatherapy is a process of healing using essential oils through our sense of smell. Most scents can be blended with lotions or oil to enhance the massage experience. Many scents can also be diffused into the air during a session. 5. What are the benefits/risks of aromatherapy? Different scents can stimulate different physical and emotional 6. How often should I get a massage? The time between therapy sessions will vary depending on need. Anytime is great for a relaxation massage, although it is recommended that a minimum of 2-3 days span between sessions in order to allow impurities to filter from the body. For sports massage, it is recommended that massage occur after before and after every sporting event and minimally once a week in order to help maintain function and form of muscles. For injury specific massage, it is best to consult the therapist and/or a physician to determine the best timeframes for sessions. 7. What is the difference between a chiropractor and a massage therapist? A chiropractor is a physician trained in adjusting the frame of the body, the skeletons and bones. Although they are often trained in muscle manipulation, therapy and treatment are approached from bone adjustment. A massage therapist focuses on manipulating the muscles of the body in order to improve body function. In order to ensure the optimum healing, chiropractors and massage therapists often work together. 8. What is the difference between acupuncture and acupressure? Acupuncture is the manipulation of energy channels through the use of needles along specific points of the body. Only a licensed acupuncture physician should provi de this service. Acupressure is the manipulation of energy channels through finger pressure along specific points of the body. Anyone licensed in massage therapy can perform this service.
